Speak4MC Workforce Development Motivational Interviewing Workshop - Tools Proven to Engage and Retain

As engagement and retention becomes more complex, strategies to positively influence program participants must be strength based and adaptable to each person’s risks and barriers. The workshop will provide overview of best practices around establishing rapport, building trust, and influencing action. Focus will be on utilization of evidenced based programming such as Motivational Interviewing and the stages of change.

The principles of Motivational Interviewing are embedded in a philosophical style of coaching that uses specific techniques to encourage partnership, acceptance and evocation while moving them towards individual and program goals. When utilizing the Spirit of MI to assess a participant’s readiness to change, staff can individualize discussions, interventions, and activities to assist them in uncovering options and determining barriers that prevent their independence. This workshop will elicit audience participation through open discussion and group activities. Attendees will leave inspired with the right tools in hand to motivate participants to consider change and take action towards their goals!
