How to Influence Program Engagement and Retention
- 2 hr2 hours
- Onsite or Virtual
As engagement and retention become more complex, strategies to positively influence program participants must be strength-based and adaptable to each person’s risks and barriers. The workshop will provide an overview of best practices around establishing rapport, building trust, and influencing action. The focus will be on utilizing evidence-based programs such as Motivational Interviewing and the stages of change. Motivational interviewing principles are embedded in a philosophical style of coaching that uses specific techniques to encourage partnership, acceptance, and evocation while moving them towards individual and program goals. When utilizing the Spirit of MI to assess a participant’s readiness to change, staff can individualize discussions, interventions, and activities to assist them in uncovering options and determining barriers that prevent their independence. This workshop will elicit audience participation through open dialogue and group activities. Attendees will leave inspired with the right tools to motivate participants to consider change and take action towards their goals!
